Assure® II Herbicide Takes Care of Unwanted Corn in Field of Mycogen® Enlist® Hybrid
Jeff Ary decided to replant about 20 acres of corn after he discovered a dryland hybrid accidently had been planted in an irrigated field on his Lewis, Kansas, farm. The problem was how to keep the dryland hybrid from coming up and using nutrients he needed for the hybrid he wanted on that piece of land.
“We scraped off the misplanted seed and came back with a Mycogen hybrid with the Enlist trait,” Ary says. The Enlist trait allowed him to use Assure® II herbicide to take care of any “volunteer” plants from the dryland hybrid as well as any other grasses in the field.
“Assure II smoked the dryland hybrid we were trying to get rid of,” Ary says. “Over a 10-day period, it really cleaned up the field.”
The postemergence application of Assure II was just what the doctor ordered.
“It worked just like I wanted it to,” Ary says. “Once we got Assure II out there, that dryland hybrid was gone. I’d use the herbicide again. It was very effective.”
The Enlist trait, which conveys tolerance to FOP herbicides such as quizalofop allows growers to apply Assure II to control grasses, including volunteer corn. Assure II was registered for use on Enlist™ corn in spring 2018. Farmers also can use Enlist Duo® and Enlist One® herbicides postemergence to control other tough weeds.
Enlist Duo is a proprietary combination of 2,4-D choline and glyphosate. Enlist One is a straight-goods 2,4-D choline that offers additional tank-mix flexibility, including the ability to mix glufosinate for an additional mode of action against tough broadleaf weeds.
